AUP is committed to providing equal access to our diverse student community to promote learning. The University’s Learning Accommodation Coordinator (LAC) is housed in the Academic Resource Center (ARC) and is dedicated to processing and implementing academic accommodations. To request academic accommodations, students may submit their requests to the Learning Accommodation Coordinator who will oversee their accommodation registration. To qualify for accommodations, students must submit valid documentation from a qualified licensed professional that clearly specifies the diagnosis(es) and impact on life and learning. This documentation must be no older than 5 years old and only needs to be submitted once (as long as it remains valid for the duration of their studies). It is recommended that students submit this documentation within the first three weeks of the semester to ensure they receive their accommodations as soon as possible, however, accommodations can be requested and modified at any time.
Once ARC receives the proper documentation, students meet with the LAC to determine appropriate academic accommodations. After the academic accommodations are approved and registered, with the student’s permission, ARC will send a notification to the student’s faculty regarding the disability and recommended accommodations. Notification for subsequent semesters will be sent at the student’s request, once again ideally within the first three weeks of the semester. Once the above process is complete, students will need to speak with their professors to arrange exam and in-class accommodations. This process is collaborative between the student, the LAC, and the faculty. Students may file for exam accommodations as needed. An online Exam Accommodation Form must be completed by the student and submitted to ARC at least two weeks before each exam. One form must be completed for each exam that requires ARC-provided testing. ARC will coordinate the exam accommodation once the Exam Accommodation Form(s) are submitted and approved.
