The continuation of MA1030, Calculus I. This course is appropriate for economics, mathematics, business and computer science majors and minors. Topics include: infinite series and applications; differential equations of first and second order and applications, functions of several variables, partial derivatives with applications, especially Lagrange multipliers. Includes the use of Mathematica.

Learning Outcomes

  1. Be able to apply the concepts and techniques learnt to problems across the disciplines.
  2. Develop mathematical maturity (ability to use theorems, to make and prove conjectures) and improved problem solving skills.
  3. Familiarity with a mathematical software package.
  4. Understand ideas related to sequences and series, Taylor series, differential equations and multivariable calculus.
  5. Students will be able to write and publish digitally and analyze and produce audiovisual content in order to communicate through a variety of digital media. (CCD LO1)
  6. Students will be able to formulate appropriate problems in a way that allows a computer to help solve them; students will have familiarity with automating these solutions through the implementation of algorithms, code or programmes. (CCD LO4)
