This course is designed for students who have little or no previous experience in working with sculpture. Students will learn to create work in three dimensions from observation and imagination. A variety of sculptural materials and techniques will be introduced, furthering students' explorations of structure and form in space. There is an additional course fee for materials.

Learning Outcomes

  1. Learning subtractive and additive sculpture techniques
  2. Students begin the life-long path of self-express through the discipline and freedom of Art
  3. Students will build a clay sculpture from an axis and middle line with geometrical planes, understanding proportions and the architectural form in space
  4. Students will learn how to identify, describe, and resolve sculptural challenges in space including proportion, light and shadow, solid and void
  5. Students will learn to identify different artistic traditions from different cultures and will do many drawings, thanks to museum visits
  6. This class will serve students who will continue in the field of sculpture, graphic arts, creative advertisement, decoration, architecture, painting, fashion design, industrial design as well as art media
  7. To become familiar with the basic material and processes of sculpture
  8. Understanding and applying the architectural form in space with geometrical planes
  9. Local and Global Perspectives: Students will enhance their intercultural understanding of languages, cultures, and histories of local societies and the global issues to which these relate (LO1CCI)
  10. Aesthetic Inquiry and Creative Expression: Students will engage with artistic or creative objects (e.g., visual art, theatrical works, film) in different media and from a range of cultural traditions (LO2CCI)
